This error message is uncommon and may indicate a problem with some files created by and referenced by EPSON Scan, or an issue with Windows is running the software. The first step to resolving this issue is to delete any saved Preview image files associated with EPSON Scan. Follow the steps below to ensure this process is followed correctly.
To delete the temporary files, browse to the following location from My Computer or Windows Explorer:
C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\EPSON\ESCNDV
- Open My Computer from either the Desktop or the Start menu.
- Locate the local hard drive that the operating system is installed (usually C:).
- Double-click on the local hard drive icon (e.g C:) to explore it.
- Check that 'Show hidden files and folders' is enabled in Tools > Folder Options > View > Advanced Settings.
- Double-click on My Computer from the Desktop or open it via the All Programs menu.
- Click on Tools on the toolbar at the top of the window and from the menu click on 'Folder Options...'.
- A window will appear. Next, click on the View tab.
- Within the View tab, check in the Advanced Settings section and locate the heading 'Files and Folders' then the sub-heading 'Hidden files and folders'.
- Under this heading, ensure that Show hidden files and folders is selected:
- If you have made changes, click Apply then OK.
- Double-click on the Documents and Settings folder.
- Double-click on the folder with your Windows user account name on it.
- Double-click on the Application Data folder.
- Double-click on the EPSON folder.
- Double-click on the ESCNDV folder.
- There may be multiple folders within the ESCNDV folder. Open and check each folder for a .BMP or .JPEG file e.g.: FULL.BMP, esXXXX.BMP (where XXXX is a number followed by a letter).
- Delete any such files if they exist. If you are not sure which files to delete, delete the whole ESCNDV folder. To delete a file or folder, right-click on it then left-click on Delete.
- Click 'Yes' to the Confirm File Delete or Confirm Folder Delete prompt.
- Once deleted, close the window and restart the computer.
- Once restarted, attempt to scan again with Epson Scan. You should find that you are now able to scan without the previous error message appearing.
You can open EPSON Scan from either the Desktop icon, or via Start > All Programs > EPSON Scan > EPSON Scan
If the error message appears again, uninstall EPSON Scan from Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel. Restart the computer, then reinstall EPSON Scan from the software CD-ROM or a download from the Epson website.
