Macintosh operating systems released up until 2004 supported drivers and applications designed for Macintosh systems with PowerPC processors. Since the release of Intel-based Macintosh systems, starting with Tiger (OS 10.4.x Intel) support has gradually moved away from this older PowerPC build towards the newer Universal driver support. Universal drivers can run natively on an Intel-based Mac OS (such as OS X Lion), offering optimal performance. The inclusion of Apple's Rosetta in OS X Tiger, Leopard, and Snow Leopard allowed users to continue using PowerPC drivers and software. However, as Rosetta support is not included in OS X Lion, PowerPC drivers and software are no longer supported. |

Newsoft Presto! BizCard 5.01 cannot be launched and displays the message "PPC is not supported"
SilverFast is unable to install, launch or work in Mac OS X Lion
Monaco EZ Color is unable to install, launch or work in Mac OS X Lion
Easy Interactive Tools: You cannot draw lines correctly or save the drawn image

Affected products:
The directory that files should be saved to has changed in Mac OS X Lion. An updated version of the ColorBase software (ver. 2.61) will be released that will save the calibration file to the correct file directory.
The printer models listed above will be supported by the new version.
The current release of LFP Remote Panel will not work in OS X Lion as it is a PowerPC-based application. Software and drivers which are PowerPC-based are not supported as Apple have not provided support for Rosetta in Mac OS 10.7.
Affected models:
An updated version of LFP Remote Panel will be released to allow firmware updates when a new version of firmware for one of these models becomes available. Most functions provided by LFP Remote Panel can be performed through the printers control panel.
The installation fails because the access directory has changed. However, as OS X Lion already comes with Adobe ICC profiles, it is not necessary to install.
Affects:
When attempting to scan or open files using Abbyy FineReader Sprint version 8, the application crashes or fails to launch. This software is bundled with many Epson scanners and All-In-Ones; its most popular features include scanning multi-page PDF files in combination with Epson Scan, and document scanning for OCR.
You can download the latest version of Abbyy FineReader Sprint using the Epson Download Navigator software. Once downloaded and installed this software will check to make sure that you are using the latest firmware and software for your Epson product. If updates are available the Epson Download Navigator will guide you through downloading and installing these updates.
See the following article for more information: How do I update ABBYY FineReader in Mac OS X?
Affected products:
After the software installation has finished, one or more on-screen "PPC not supported" messages are displayed. You may also notice that some of the icons or buttons are not displayed correctly, such as the JPEG, PDF, TIFF and OCR buttons. Some components of the PageManager 8 software are PowerPC-based and not supported in OS X Lion as Apple have not provided support for Rosetta.
Newsoft Inc, the manufacturers of the software, intend to supply a software updater via newsoft.eu.com (third party website). Please refer to the Newsoft Inc. website for release date and any further information.
Affected products:
The message "PPC not supported" is displayed on-screen when you attempt to use the software because some components of BizCard v.5.x are PowerPC-based and not supported in OS X Lion as Apple have not provided support for Rosetta.
Version 5.x is not supported in OS X Lion and was designed for earlier releases of Mac OS X, current at the time of the release of the software and the products it is bundled with. Contact Newsoft Inc, the manufacturers of the software, for further information via newsoft.eu.com (third party website).
When attempting to scan to a computer over a network connection (wired or wireless), such as 'Scan to PC', 'Scan to PDF' or 'Scan to Email', the Epson Event Manager application may crash when attempting to open Epson Scan in OS X Lion.
Affected products:
This may not happen every time, so if it occurs we recommend closing Epson Scan and attempt to scan again. As a workaround, we recommend initiating the scan from the computer instead by opening Epson Scan directly. For guidance on using Epson Scan with the computer, please see the following article: How to perform a basic scan with EPSON Scan
Epson has released a new version of Event Manager and this issue is resolved in version 2.50.02 or higher. The latest version of Event Manager can be downloaded and installed from the Drivers & Software section of the Epson support website.
Affected products:
SilverFast Ai and SE is included with several Epson scanners as part of the software bundle which is in addition to the standard Epson Scan software. SilverFast is PowerPC-based software and is not currently supported in OS X Lion as Apple have not provided support for Rosetta.
The software was designed for earlier releases of Mac OS X, current at the time of the release of the software and the products it is bundled with. For the latest compatibility information, you can contact LaserSoft Imaging, the manufacturers of the software via www.silverfast.com (third party website).
As a workaround, you can continue to scan high quality images in various file formats (including uncompressed TIFF), with full control over resolution, target size and even the option to apply a profile. EPSON Scan directly controls all of the features of your EPSON scanner. With this software you can scan images in color, grayscale, or black and white and obtain professional quality results. This program is the standard cross-platform interface between your scanner and most applications. You can access it from any application that supports the TWAIN standard.
These models (Perfection 4490/V700/V750) are supported in OS X Lion with Epson Scan; the latest version can be downloaded and installed from the Drivers & Software section of the Epson support website. For most models, Epson Scan should also be available to download - please see the following article for compatibility information: Epson and Mac OS X Lion (Mac OS 10.7.x)
Affected products:
Monaco EZ Color is included in the software bundle which is in addition to the standard Epson Scan software. X-Rite Monaco EZ Color is PowerPC-based software and is not currently supported in OS X Lion as Apple have not provided support for Rosetta.
The software was designed for earlier releases of Mac OS X, current at the time of the release of the software and the products it is bundled with. For the latest compatibility information, you can contact X-Rite, the manufacturers of the software via www.xrite.com (third party website).
