Loading the Roll Paper

Before loading the roll paper, check the following points:

  1. The end of the roll paper needs to be flattened so that it doesn’t curl as it is fed into the printer. You can use the instruction booklet that comes with the roll paper to flatten it - put it over the edge of the roll paper and then roll the booklet in the opposite direction to the way the paper rolls, as shown below:

    Instruction booklet and roll paper

  2. The end of the roll paper needs to be a clean cut. Use a triangle or other tool to check that the roll is cut perpendicularly to the edges. A diagonal cut may cause paper feed problems:

    Cutting roll paper

  3. Check that there is enough ink remaining in the ink cartridges to print the job. Changing ink cartridges in the middle of printing on roll paper can smear the print.

To load the roll paper, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure the printer is powered off.

  2. Collapse the sheet feeder support and lay it flat on the top of the printer.  It is not used in roll paper printing.

  3. Two roll paper holder ends are provided with the Stylus Photo R2400. Fit these onto each end of the roll paper as shown below:

Fit the roll paper holder ends

  4. Power on the printer. Pull down the output paper extension, but don't extend it.  The output paper flap must be dropped down:

    Power on the printer

  5. Fold out the two plastic tabs on the front of the printer, as shown below. These roll paper support tabs guide the paper as it exits the printer and prevents it catching:

    Roll paper support tabs

  6. The tabs on the roll paper holders attach to the slots on the back of the R2400. The slots are indicated by arrows pointing to them. Clip the roll paper holder and roll paper onto the back of the printer as shown below:

Clip the holder and paper onto the back of the printer

  7. Insert the roll paper into the roll paper slot on the back of the printer. Feed the paper a few cm into the printer.  From the back, make sure that the roll paper is flush with the left-hand edge of the printer, then move the plastic paper guide to the left so that it is flush to the roll paper. The guide should hold the paper in place without pinching or creasing it:

    Insert the roll paper

    Notes Icon Note:

Roll paper must be fed into the roll paper slot on the back of the printer and not - as shown below - into the normal sheet feeder:

    Insert the roll paper

  8. Next, push the roll paper into the printer as far as it will go and then hold it in place for three seconds.  The printer should now automatically load the paper.

  9. Open the top of the printer cover.  Look inside the printer and check that the roll paper is seated correctly on the right side of the printer.  It should be straight, with approximately 2cm of paper in front of the grey paper rollers, as shown below:

Check that the roll paper is seated correctly

  10. Finally, turn the roll paper holder knobs to take up the remaining slack in the roll paper. The roll paper is now ready to use.

Removing the Roll Paper

Follow these steps to remove roll paper from the printer:

  1. Hold down the Roll Paper button (the 3rd button from the top) for three seconds. The paper should feed out from the back of the printer, and the Paper Out light should start to flash:

  2. Turn back the roll paper holder knobs to wind back the paper onto the paper roll. Keep turning the roll paper knobs until you have fed the paper completely out of the printer.

  3. Press the top Paper/Trash button to clear the red  Paper Out light.

Printing on Roll Paper with EPSON Easy Photo Print

Epson Easy Photo Print offers a straightforward way of printing banners or long images, and sets the printer up automatically.  Follow the steps below.

Printing from Easy Photo Print (note: the process relates to version 1.50, and the screenshots depict Windows)

    • Before starting, load your image into a photo-editing application and resize it to match the dimensions you want for the final product. For example, if you want to print an image A3+ wide and 100cm long you will need to make the image exactly this size in your application. Save the image as a JPG, TIFF or BMP file so that Easy Photo Print can read it.

    1. Load Easy Photo Print.  Select the folder where the image is located.  A thumbnail of the image should be displayed:

    2. Left-click on the file and it should appear in My Selection:

    3. Now click Next button Next.

    4. Make sure that the R2400 is selected as the printer and that the Paper Source is set to Roll:

Select the printer and paper source

    5. For high quality photo prints select Best Photo from the Print Mode drop-down menu:

      Print mode

    6. Select the paper size with the correct width for your paper from the four choices on the left: 10 x 15cm (4 x 6in), 13 x 18cm (5 x 7in ), A4 210 x 297mm and A3+ 329 x 483mm

    7. Next, select the correct paper type: Premium Glossy, Premium Semigloss or Plain Paper.  If your exact paper type is not listed, use the closest match:

Select the paper size and type

    8. Click Next button Next. Under Select Layout on the left, choose the desired layout. For most purposes this will be the first one listed (Standard). A preview of the image as it would appear on the page is shown in the middle of the screen. Use the Photo Layout options and the buttons on the right side of the window to resize, move, magnify or rotate the image as desired.

      Select the layout

    9. To print your image, click on the Print button Print button.

When it has finished printing, the printer will eject the paper ready for cutting. Use a triangle or other tool to ensure that you cut the roll perpendicularly to the edges. A diagonal cut may cause paper feed problems:
